Downstairs‍

We recently opened up the house to take advantage of the huge views and natural light, there are windows on all sides. To the South the house opens up onto a long verandah where, when the weather is fine, our guests spend much of their time.  

Gogwell is a warm and comfortable house. You enter through a large map-lined boot room, the perfect place for dogs to spend the night  with lots of separate spaces,. a cosy drawing room with log fire and more formal feel and the TV room which is great for movies and big matches but also as a place to work if necessary.  We have good wifi.  There is a large open plan dining room which comes off the Aga fuelled kitchen.  This is a  great place for entertaining.  There are lovely furnishings, oak floors and a wood burner.

Upstairs‍

There are six double bedrooms, including 4 super king bedrooms and 2 twins, we use high-quality linens and the beds are incredibly comfortable. Two bedrooms have ensuites, two share a Jack and Jill and there is a ‘family’ bathroom next to the remaining two rooms.

Outside

Gogwell has an enclosed garden which is large and lovely, with lawns and orchards and breathtaking views.  In one direction you can see the Sidmouth gap over 50 miles away, in another Bickleigh, you can see Dartmoor from parts of the garden.

The lawn that spills off the verandah is perfect for games :croquet, badminton, boules.  There’s a swing in the oak tree, hammocks, hideaways and of course the glorious swimming pool.  

There are walks in all directions from the house, public footpaths go past the house, down towards the Butterleigh Inn and also down the back drive to the River Exe, and some guests walk to Bickleigh.  Some take advantage of the fishing we offer on our stretch of the River Exe

There is a games barn with a ping pong table and darts.

The Pool

The 15-meter heated pool is a highlight, perfect for swimming laps or relaxing in the shallow ends. Children can learn to swim, and adults can enjoy refreshments from the floating bean bags.

The Barn

The barn is a really popular addition to Gogwell, and provides a versatile studio space for yoga, exercise classes, painting courses, meetings, and larger gatherings. With prior notice we can arrange instructors.  It is spacious, comfortable and has oak floors, a wood-burning stove, high ceilings, and arched windows. 

The barn also has a gorgeous super king bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, ideal for guests preferring to escape the rest of the party or for those who need ground-floor accommodation.

Dogs

Gogwell welcomes well behaved dogs and it is a dogs’ paradise. Surrounded as it is, by beautiful countryside and footpaths. Pubs in the area allow dogs, and the property offers an outdoor tap for washing off mud, dog towels, a kennel with a heat lamp and beds. There are fabulous dog day outs on the Devon beaches, especially Saunton Sands and Exmouth, the Exe Valley Trail, Exmoor, Dartmoor, Wellington Memorial and the Tiverton Canal for more sedate walk. Please don’t let your dogs chase the resident peacocks.
